Commando centre stand

Forums

I have a 1972 Interstate and when i got it some 25 years ago it had not got a center stand, that wasn't any trouble back in the day when i could bend down to do basic servicingbut the knees are not what they were so i got myself a lift hence i need a centre stand. Centre stands i have seen on the internet range from £80 to £100 and for what they are its a bit much for my bank manager (the wife) so could anyone measure their stand and send me the dimensions as i am a welder by trade and i will make my own. The fact that i live in the Republic of Ireland and have no reference to other commando owners does not help me. I hope some one can please help.

thanks to you all for reading my dilemma.

Hopefully the following should be of use to you, I'll include some diagrams and photo's to help explain what you need

The flat section is 1/4 plate,6-1/4 long by 1-1/2 wide, The overall length from the radiused end to the foot plate is approx 11",The stand pivot bolt is drilled approx 5/8"from the radius and equi distant through the 1-1/2"section, The distance between the flat section where it pivots on the outsideof the engine cradle just below the gearbox measured 3.8"so it could be 3-13/16", The feet splay out to approx 11" measured outside edge to edge, There is a cross over tube approx 5-3/4" from the pivot bolt, which is drilled to take one end of the stand spring ,the other end should fit into a hole drilled in the nearside engine plate, The foot lever is 1/2" dia x approx 9" long welded to the nearside footplate and bent to miss the exhaust pipe, this has a bracing fillet of approx 1/8"x1" x5" There are two bumpers 3/8" x1" angled on the inside of the flat section which stop the going too far over centre, that will have to be trial and error

figure 54 in the diagram is for the 850 interstate the mountings are slightly different, figure 48 is fror the 750

have you seen this on ebay at the minute

200954604025 (item number)

that looks like the stand my bike has tho i understand you may have trouble with postage they do come up on ebay now and then. The center stand is every handy on the bike lift (table type) and when out and about if you choose to make one go for the 850 type as it is said to be stronger due to the pivot plates going down and conneting with the cross tube which is the only differents between them.

I took a couple of pictures of mine before it went for powder coating (always take photo of stuff being sent out then if it gets lost or mixed up with other parts you have a picture to help identify it again) they may help to give you a better idea of what i looks like.

Email me at krsnixon@gmail.com and i will send them you and a few pictures of the stand on the bike.
