clutch wobble

Forums

I have a Mk2a Commando and read with interest the preface in a recent Roadholder about the authors clutch wobble. I have the same problem and would like some feedback about this please. I have a belt drive fitted.

The clutch runs on a deep groove ball race. You will always show a fair bit of movement at the edge of the clutch drum. With the bike in gear and the clutch out, the bearing is not turning, the whole lot is going round on the gearbox input shaft, that in turn is supported in the sleeve gear and sleeve gear bearing. You could change the clutch centre bearing but will probably find nothing changes.

As the saying goes 'I was that man' - I can confirm what David says as I did replace the clutch centre bearing with a brand new item - result - no difference. You live and learn ...

I was once told by Les Emery that 30 thou of movement at the primary chain teeth is normal. An with that he said i didnt need a new bearing an put the phone down. So I saved time and money but he lost money but saved the time of sending one only to have me call back saying it didn't work.
