Amal change standard 850 Commando Premier Pilot Jet size to 19

Forums

Amal are now fitting 850 Commando Premier carbs with the number 19 pilot jet (identified by 3 rings) as standard which will allow setting up to start from the usual 1 1/2 turns out.

Previously they fitted the 17 jet (2 rings).

This should improve low speed running and decrease the sensitivity to adjustment.

That makes sense, my 850 MK2is fitted with new pre-premier type carb bodies, which have pressed in pilot jets that measure 0.43mm (the same as premier number 17 pilot jet). it would not start well and had poor low speed running.

I opened the pilot jets out with a 0.45mm drill bit (which is approximately the same bore as premier number 19 pilot jet) and it now runs and starts better. (Maybe not the best solution, but cheaper than buying new premiers)
