Throttle slide cable nipples

Does anyone know how the tiny 3mm throttle cable nipples should be attached? The cable seems too small to birdcage and solder. If I just dip it in the solder pot it might come off and go in the engine.  What about crimping them?

The throttle nipple has been fitted in this fashion for as long as I can remember without any hint of it coming adrift, crimping only grips it were it touches soldering if done properly all along its inner surface is a much safer option and works every time. The secret with soldering is to get everything clean and dry. A flux pot( dip components in it for at least 20 seconds) . A solder pot with the solder temperature just simmering at  the point when it is showing a shiny silver and becomes convex with as much bird-caging that you can manage will be enough.

... those little nipples don't give much room for splaying the cable but the ones I've had from Venhill have a small chamfer which allows the cable to be spread to some extent.

These are not 3mm (del-auto are) they are 1/8 inch. I have always found that we bought cables ready made, and never had any issue with dropped nipples. Further there has been the discussion re twin cables from the handlebar to the carbs or the traditional 1-2 Amal cable joiner/splitter. The former can suffer from low speed misalignment of the two carbs at low speeds, so be aware. While having the twistgrip cable set up the same as the choke cables could be be very handy if you break a throttle cable when out/about.

Is 0.120" approx, only 5 thou less than 1/8". Once you have a bit of solder on them the difference becomes vanishingly small.

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling a bit more confident now for two reasons. The first being that as what I'm doing is converting to a 1 into 2 splitter from a dual cable set up, I forgot that I'll actually be snipping the inner cables which attach to the throttle slides and re using those ends and soldering the new nipples onto all the ends that go into the splitter. This is not so bad because if I screw it up the nipple is only in the splitter rather than the slide so nothing will be going in my newly rebuilt engine. Also finding 5 niples in the bag I remembered I ordered some to experiment with. I soldered one on a bit of spare cable without bird caging it and really gave it some grief using a pair of wire strippers to pull and hammer aginst it. It did come off eventaully though!
