Fitting indicators to a Navigator

Forums

Having converted my Navigator to 12v electrics I am considering fitting indicators but want to retain as period a look as possible.   Having discarded the idea of using Electra indicators I am thinking about using the early 70's Lucas indicators used on the Commando and many other British bikes of the era.   I will probably mount them on their stalks on the headlight and the rear light mounting bracket along similar lines to the Commando.   Has anyone done this and if so can you provide a photo to show what it looks like and how you did it?   The wiring and flasher unit are straight forwards but can anyone suggest a period switch that matches the standard Ducon light switch?    Happy New Year and many thanks in anticipation!

Prob unnecessary worrying on my part but indicators have to be a minimum distance apart, to be legal. (Mot or no mot). I’ll see if I can find the info

its in the 89 lighting regs, it says

C) A solo motor bicycle having an engine not exceeding 50 cc and first used on or after 1st April 1986 and a pedal cycle–

(1) Front indicators:

240 mm

(2) Rear indicators:

180 mm

If the indicators are on stalks I doubt it will be a problem, as I said me worrying un necessarily!

While the regs say indicators only have to be fitted on bikes made after 86, the rules apply if they are retrofitted.

Thanks for all the helpful feedback chaps!

Christopher, I should have looked at ebay before asking shouldn't I -  spoilt for choice!

David, very neat.  I am obviously thinking along similar lines to you and I like the period switch.   I will explore mounting the front ones on the headlight mounting bolts the way the Commando does and if that doesn't work follow your solution and the rear ones using the existing bolt holes which hold the rear mudguard stay in place.

Dan, wise words and thank you, I hadn't thought of checking the regs!    Given the front ones have 3" stems + the 6 1/2" headlight they will be well wide enough and the rear ones with 5" stems + the width of the mudguard should be fine too.   Lets hope I can make it look like a period 'optional extra'.

I will report back!
