1946/7 16H parts list

Hi there

I wondered whether some kind soul could point me in  the direction of a parts list primarily for the motor of a 16H I have. I have parts of two engines (47 and 49) and want to find out what bits I need to hunt for to complete one of them. Both motors have the large parts but lack the internal small parts. Frame is 1946. It it quite difficult to check what is missing without an exploded diagram.

Hi Dominic,

I have parts lists for 1946 and 1947 but they are not illustrated. The earliest illustrated one I can find is from 1950, Don't ask me what the difference is !

I can send them to you as PDF's but as they are large, please email me - technical@nortonownersclub.org and I will  send them on to you.

The immediate post-war lists are unillustrated and to make matters worse, they commenced a new system of part numbering.

However, the '46 machines re-used the 1938 pattern engine and the '38 books were illustrated, although in rather an old-fashioned way. John de Kruif's site includes a pdf scan.

I've got an original if you need close-up images, but the images are quite grainy.1938

That looks like a 1948 pattern engine although the long inlet manifold is a puzzle. Forks though are the one-year-only 1946 girders with double headlamp brackets. This basic form of engine continued up until the end of 16H production.

The motor in the frame is a 49 model. The other motor I have (also incomplete) is a 47. Obviously they are not the same. I am wanting to get the 47 motor together in the frame I have. I have an idea that what I have here has been cobbled together.

I have an original hardcopy of the 1947 parts list for models 1, 16H, 18, & ES2 - which is not illustrated - as well as a hardcopy of the '48 & '49 parts list for the same models, which is illustrated.

I have a '47 Model 18, and have been cross-referencing between the 2 lists / illustrations - specifically for the Model 18, many parts were the same, so the later illustrations have been invaluable. Maybe an option for the 16H also ?

If it helps, I do have access to a scanner, so could eventually scan any sections needed, to pdf
