Norton es2 1949 Greasing

Forums

I am a new member/owner.

Just need a little advise on feeding the grease nipples. I have tried with a standard gun and even though the nipple is clear the grease gun will not seal and the grease just pumps out of the side of the nozzle where it connects to the nipple. Can anyone advise on maybe the correct gun or greasing attachment to use. Thanks Dave.

Try a single layer of cotton rag over the nipple. It will pump through but not sideways.

I suspect the nipple fits a Telecamit type gun , I have never found anything modern to fit. Someone will  have a nipple  fetish and  know all.

... I trust you are clean through to the bearing.  It’s not just over pressure due to congealed grease in the “nipple” gallery...

Richard's trick always works for me. I like the appearance of the old grease nipples but they seem to be impossible to buy new. Some galleries were blocked on my 16H and I changed them temporarily one at a time and used a modern high pressure clip on lever gun just to clear them through. They're OK for an old push on type once clear.

.. but certainly makes sense.  I had two old style slide on's on the head stock of a feather bed that  were a pig to get fed.   Then on strip down for other work I realised, they go no where!  They now  have blank caps fitted.

How about your exhaust choice David did you get anywhere?

 Best regards

Jon
