Yet another query from the worlds slowest Triton build.
Can somebody please tell me if it is necessary to source a new brake backplate when fitting a 5/8”x3/8” sprocket/drum to replace a 1/4” sprocket. I bought a wider sprocket off eBay (will I never learn) and it is slightly deeper than the original and ‘kisses’ the backplate slightly when rotating.
Can I perhaps space the the backplate with a very thin washer/shim or was there a complementary backplate introduced with the wider chain size spocket?
Finally the drum id does not seem perfectly concentric when mounted on the wheel. I have found which position seems best on the three mounting bolts and it is pretty good but not quite perfect.
Is it usually necessary to have the drum skimmed when mounted on the wheel? If it is can anybody advise who can do this near High Wycombe. The wheel has an 18” alloy rim and currently no tyre.
Thanks for your help
Regards

Probably a made in india drum. I would shim the brakeplate out a little. The half axle is usually a floating fit in the drum and the drum will usually center if the brake is held on while doing up the half axle nut.You could also use an angle grinder on the drum edge to take off any excess!.A bit of carefull comparison to an original drum may provide the answer.
