Lucas headlight badge

Hi there,

Im in the process restoring a 1957 inter and found the Lucas badge loose inside the headlight. There were the remains of what looks like a rubber grommet stuck to the casing but I don’t think that’s right. I’ve seen a couple of nicely restored bike but both have some sort of aluminium ring holding the badge and both were different, are these home made or are they available to buy? Also, the badge is a close fit in the hole, is that right.

Possibly for sale

Hi all

I have acquired a 1959, Norton dominator 88, which I’m led to believe, has been sat in the garage since the early 80s . I guess I have owned it about a year and now, and recently took it to a guy who recommissioned it and got it running.

in reality, I am never going to use it and just wondered what it would be worth or if anyone would be interested.

Norton 650SS 1963

I had Dunstall exhausts fitted to the 650SS Norton

The Right hand side down  exhaust pipe is now missing, the exhaust from the cylinder head is the part I need

Does any one know of a supplier or a Second hand part

Being Dunstall there is a balance tube connecting the two down pipes so is unique in style

Any help would be welcome

Regards

AMC Clutch / Primary Drive Options

Hello all,

Hope everyone is well. I am currently building a triton slimline special, which will eventually house a dominator engine once funds allow some Maney / Molnar engine parts.

I have a dominator gearbox from a 1960 650SS, rebuilt by Dave Coates which has the RGM close ratio gear kit.

I am looking for recommendations from anybody who has used either a commando style clutch and belt drive with a dominator box, or stuck with the dominator clutch with the kush rubbers and primary chain.

Capping the oiler

Anyone permanently capped the oiler on a Commando Mk2a ? Recently bought a mint Mk2a with a poorly plugged oiler which left the battery area etc coated in oily mist. I don't fancy reinstating the oiler and want to cap it permanently and before I install an 11mm compression end cap has anyone had success with another method?

Stampings on Birmingam engines.

A NOCcer has asked me about 2 stampings on his Birmingham (Bracebridge St) built Jubilee engine. He writes:

I've included a photo that shows the numbers 32'31 and a letter T high up on the RH crank case half. The 32'31 must refer to ignition timing, but surely that wasn't stamped on every engine? The stamping looks to have been done at manufacture.

ES2 gearbox oil leak

My ES2 has been leaking oil Gearbox and kickstart shaftfrom the kickstart shaft.

Upon investigation, there appears to be either a cork washer or some "O" rings missing.

The attached pics shows the missing cork washer, which I have replaced, and possibly some oil "O" rings  for the machined grooves on the kickstart shaft.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Thks

Bruce

Design style

In my collection of Norton related books there's a lot of information about mechanical design development, and mechanical designers.  But as far as I can see, almost nothing is written about who developed the design styles.
