What were the factory  applied  finishes on a 1956  model 99 ? What were optional colors? What did the fuel tank have? frame, fenders and wheels?

All solid colours,  all tin parts, Polychromatic Grey, Red Post Office Red, Metalscent Blue, like Triumph Shell Blue, Land Rover Forest Green, all Two-Tones machines are  post August-ish 1959!

Anna told me this information, so it should be pretty accurate!

I have only seen   chrome plated  tanks with  grey  paint (pin stripe surround and round badge ) ,  grey frame, headlight, primary cover   and fenders on a 1956 99 twin, were their different color and combinations for that model and year?

I was  around in the  50's  and remember the post office red and green ones. I took a photo of a red one . Have it somewhere. Might have been Les Rogers bike.   A restoration .by a very particular gent.

were there  1956 99's in black? Is there any reference material showing what was  truly  available in 1956?

In 56  the standard colour was grey  with an option for black.   wheelrims had silver centers and red lining. The other colours came later  . There was extra chrome availiable.

hello now Norton big twins were in mostly polychromatic grey or black and some export models were in light polychromatic blue or post office red or forest green right from1952 to 1959  but most Norton owners only seam to see in monochrome   silver and black   were I see in full technicolor 3D  Now this evidence of Owners seeing in monochrome  is abundant with there so called restorations   as 90% turn out in silver and black   and even the lightweights to  like powder coating the lazy mans way out of doing the job instead doing it in right way,  or owners have the fear of getting stuck in with a paint   gun  and most owners will not have a go that wheelbuilding too! saying it a dark art witch is bunkum,  and like wiring a Norton these is nothing to it if you can read a wiring diagram and use a multimeter for testing, like eating cake,   what are you afraid off if goes all wrong just start again ,its all about having ago and learning something new   So you never learn anything if you do not get stuck In So have ago at doing it yourself   even if it goes wrong   this is called experience,   Yours  Anna J

I'm no expert on these either,  Colour scheme looks OK  ,saddle a bit odd,  front fender looks a bit new ,missing chainguard . Pretty much all there though. sits down a bit too much at rear, short shocks? 18" wheel? long forks?
