ES2 1955 - Head and Carb

Forums

Hi all,

I've just gained a new project 1955 ES2. This is all new to me since my other Norton's are Commando's. I'm still gaining information and have yet to source a parts book, which I'm sure would help with this question - anyway!...

The bike came with a 276 Amal (incorrect for '55 - should be a Monbloc). The 276 is in a very poor state so instead of trying to fix it I purchased a new Monobloc which arrived today. The 276 connects via clamping ring to the inlet tube screwed into the head, the Monobloc has a flang with two holes for studs and nuts. So what do I need to replace on the head to enable me to connect the Monobloc to this engine?

Thanks - Paul.

... is the other way round, having a monobloc instead of a 276!. It fits using an adaptor which I believe was used on later models (such as yours) which screws into the head and has a flange fitting for the carb. You should find that your adaptor (for the clip fitting carb) will unscrew from the head. Is it an iron or alloy head?

I'm not sure how easy it will be to find the correct adaptor.
