Norton 650SS Aberdeen
- Location: Aberdeen, Scotland
Making room for another Rotary Commander, I reluctantly have my slimline 1963 Norton 650SS for sale, owned for 16 years, it is a reliable, clean and good looking bike often used during the summer months for two up trips to the Scottish West Coast and to rallies in Northumbria, it is always fully insured and never on sorn, it is kept in my warm garage with my other bikes. When I purchased the bike, it was fitted with a 600 Dominator engine although in good condition, I wanted to own and ride a 650SS finding that when the bike was new it was built as a 650SS I embarked on a mission to at least fit an engine that was similar to the one originally fitted, so I searched for and eventually acquired a correct engine for the frame, it is not therefore a matching numbers bike. The NOC kindly provided me with a history of the frame and 650SS engine numbers, which coincidentally are very close to each other, the frame has always been in the UK, the engine was exported to Berlina in New York, I acquired the engine, which has since been fully overhauled, from a friend in British Columbia Canada. I have extensive records of the bike and engine filed in three lever arch folders complete with MOT’s, receipts etc and the history of the bike going back to the early 60’s.
Brief spec of the bike, PW3 cam supplied by Mick Hemmings who said it would give the bike a “bit of grunt” he was right, it goes very well indeed, oil feed to cylinders type later conrods, six start oil pump, twin chopped mono blocks, TLS front brake, alloy wheels, recently overhauled mag it starts first kick hot or cold, new auto advance/retard, new chains fitted for the camshaft and magneto drives and for the primary and main drives, plain rocker spindles oil pressure fed head (it does not smoke), oil filter mod, rev counter, 12 volt electrics, new tyres and side stand.
The bike comes with; a matched set of very rare 650 Deluxe crankcases, a complete ready to run Dominator 99 600 engine with downdraft head, numerous Dominator spares including a non tacho drive timing cover, two new rear shocks, and all my special tools as I intend to concentrate on my Rotaries and do not plan on owning another Heavy Weight Norton. Genuine offers of around £6500.00 will be considered.
