Roadholder 370 - October 2018

7 this OHC bike, one has to wonder: we had all this expertise but nothing ever came of this very interesting project. The collection also includes a Matchless G50, AJS 7R, Matchless G45, Manx Norton as well as other AMC G11 and G9 Twins, and some really rare, small capacity bikes. Huber's Garage also provided free tea and coffee for us, as well as all their regular customers. We all initially met at Ryka's Café and, after a cup of tea, we all left for our first stop at Huber's Garage. John Blades employed the 'drop off' system, with the one behind John stopping to let everyone behind know where we were going. Ken Rawlinson was the back marker for the ride there and back to Jack's Café. The weather Gods smiled on us and, apart from me having to fill up with petrol on the way there, it was a trouble-free ride going there and back. We all rode into Jack's Café where there were already a large number of bikes in their car park. They offer a discount for pensioners for a few days of the week, so it was a fish and chip meal for us all. After we had all eaten it was out into the car park to view all the other bikes that had also turned up. Dave Gibson met us at the café and parked his 1935 350 International at the front which created a lot of interest from other visitors. When we all left, one of those in the car park filmed us leaving, so we may now have ended up on You Tube. Sad to say that during the return ride, Matt Crighton had a problem with his Commando Roadster's carburetion. He knew that it would take a while to sort out so he indicated to Patrick to carry on without him. Matt has told us all that he will complete the next ride out. Apart from Matt's mishap, the return ride back to Ryka's was uneventful. The weather and the roads were that good and it was one of those days that it was good to be out and riding a motorcycle. Club members who attended the ride out included: • John Blades - Triumph Tiger Sport. • Ken Rawlinson - 850 Mk.III Commando Interstate. • Patrick Bullimore - 1965 750 Atlas. • Dave Gibson - 1935 350 International. • Geoff Cole - 1968 750 Commando Fastback. • Matt Crighton - 1971 750 Commando Roadster. • Phil Hannam - 1961 Manxman Café Racer. • Peter Ashley - 1966 Dominator 650SS. • John Hirst - 1973 750 Commando Roadster. • Simon Smith - 1972 750 Commando Roadster. • Bill Harrison - 1960 350 Model 50. • Anthony Curzon - 1968 750SS. For all those of the Surrey Branch who could not make it due to other commitments, it was a great day to ride a motorcycle and we are planning another future Branch ride out. Our gratitude and thanks must go to John Blades for being a very able ride leader, and organiser, to Ken Rawlinson for his very diligent riding as our back marker, and to Peter Ashley for being there for us all, and sending us in the right direction!
