Roadholder 370 - October 2018
46 dismayed to lose all his coolant whilst attempting to get his BMW-based C652 Racer to compete with other Nortons. (Poor Joe!). As I was supposedly helping Ken Perch - I was pleased that his bike seemed to work well, despite Ken being unhappy with his times. All improved on Sunday for him thankfully. Saturday night saw the awards ceremony with some beautifully crafted plaques and trophies being handed out to ther oldest, youngest, furthest travelled. A further award was to special guest Rudi Thalhammer, a great Austrian Champion on Nortons who received a special presentation from Tim and Roland including Honorary NOC Membership. Those receiving the 'youngest attendee' awards will have perhaps better appreciated the incredibly loud rock band which later 'entertained' people for many miles around until the early hours. Sunday 19th August Following our exertions of the night before, it was great for some of us that, with the exception of more racing at the Red Bull Ring, there was little planned activity. The Norton Parade took place, led by Giacomo Agostini on his MV Augusta. Like many others, Tony and I rode out to sample the great local roads and travelled as far as Wolfsburg some 60 miles away, before turning back to the camp site to prepare the van for the return journey. A great International Rally. All credit must go to Roland and his family for laying on another truly excellent rally. Some may grumble about the loud music on Saturday, or even the mix up on the first ride out, but all would agree - this was not just a good one - it was a great International Rally. Whilst there, Tim and I had the opportunity to make contact with the Dutch organiser of the 2019 Rally in Kampen, Holland - if it's only half as good as this, I can't wait for the next one!
