Roadholder 370 - October 2018

4 Forward Ref. the item 'Manx Land Ladies' on page 9 of Rh369 (Sept 2018). On page 10 the article ended somewhat abruptly. What read as: ' So, I have had much to remember of the Manx landladies and their contribution to my' should have been: 'So, I have had much to remember of the Manx landladies and their contribution to my welfare in the Island. Plus ça change.' My Apologies MW To Err is human ... Spares issues: N ow that our Spares Officer, Neil Shoosmith, has retired from employment, he is in a better position to seek out spares, new and second-hand, to assist members to keep their motorcycles on the road without breaking the bank. The spares team always seek to sell parts at the lowest price possible; of course, we do make a profit but this is used to increase our stock of parts. There will be many members who have collections of parts and, like me, they will be reluctant to sell them in the anticipation that one day they will come in handy. My father used to keep any off-cuts of wood for the same reason, but by the time of his death, there was probably enough to run a wood-burning stove for the winter! My point in saying this is that if members do have a collection of parts that they wish to dispose of, Neil is now in a better position to come and look at them and offer, where appropriate, a price for acquiring them. This way, members will see a return on their investment in what their partners may refer to as a pile of rusty rubbish, but which we know, could help another member to keep his Norton running. One area proving particularly difficult is mudguards and tin-ware for the Dominator range. Our previous metal basher is now over 80 and has hung up his hammer, so these parts are particularly welcome as would any recommendation of an individual to take on their manufacture. Rallies and Events: The rally season is now over; Linda and I attended the three nationally-promoted events and the Begonia in Flanders. In all, just over 600 people attended but very few were at them all. I don't know how many different people attended, but I estimate that it was not far off a number equivalent to 10% of our membership. We have now moved to a mixture of hotel/chalet accommodation and camping events; this has proved popular and has increased the numbers attending. Next year events in Northumbria, The Netherlands, Devon and Flanders are already planned and dates can be found in the events section. The Club will be represented at the Autumn Stafford Show on 13th/14th October by the Shenstone Branch and I will be displaying my bikes at the prestigious 780th 'Corby Glen Sheep Fair', but I may be alone with Classic bikes. Safe riding, Tim
