Roadholder 364 - April 2018
4 Forward It will soon be time for some serious getting out and about; April weather can be brilliant. If so, we will be riding to the AGM at Donington Hall onApril 15th. We hope to include a factory visit where we can expect to see the new V4. The AGM is very important, but I recognise that it is not always the most interesting event that you will ever attend. We will be discussing the Club's finances, there will be elections and hopefully we will inject some interesting variations into the agenda. Please try to attend. My next Club trip will be to the Shenstone Branch camping weekend on the 4th to 7th May. The word 'camping' is generally becoming a misnomer, with many arriving at such gatherings in centrally heated campervans and caravans. Linda and I will be in a tent … . On April 28th we will be laying a wreath at Pa Norton's grave; all will be welcome to this celebration of the founder of Norton Motorcycles. Bookings are now underway for the 'In Steam Rally' to be held at the massive Weeting Steam Rally in Norfolk. The Club has a dedicated area and we will be displaying Nortons during the course of the Rally. Our theme is '50 years of the Commando'. We are hoping to see a full range, so, if you happen to have an early Fastback or a Hi Rider please bring it along. Bookings are also coming in for the International Rally at the Red Bull Ring near Salzburg, Austria, which will run from 15th to the 20th of August. Linda and I will take in the Begonia Rally on the way back, just leaving enough time to recover and ride up to Scotland for the Reivers Rally in Melrose. At least that is the plan! I am still looking for a speedometer for my Model 18. I want it to look right and it seems that only an 80mph original chronometric can achieve this. Although technically I don’t require a speedometer, as the bike was made before October 1937, I feel it is necessary so a bicycle fitment may have to do for a while. The first shake down will take place in April and may even be my transport for the camping weekend in Uttoxeter, with the Shenstone Branch. Please come to the AGM if you can. Safe riding Tim Courtesy of The Norvil Motorcycle Company, you should have found one (or maybe two) 'Commando' decals with this edition of Roadholder - if you haven't come across it (them) then go and look in the bin as you may have inadvertently thrown it away! a commando 'souvenir'
