For the third year running, the Herefordshire Section of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club is running its flagship event, “Herefordshire on the Edge” (HOTE), on Sunday June 24th. Once again this unique, non-competitive, navigational event is proving hugely popular, with enquiries coming in from classic motorcycle enthusiasts from all corners of the UK.

HOTE is open to motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and three-wheelers which are at least 25 years old on Jan 1st 2018. There are two starting points this year; the traditional southern start at The Traveller’s Rest at Ross-on-Wye (HR9 7QJ) and a new northern start at The Lion Hotel, Leintwardine (SY7 0JZ).

In the course of the day, entrants have to plan and follow a route which, from their chosen start point, takes them to the other end of the County as well to as controls in Hay on Wye and the British Camp and also as many of 28 other designated waypoints that are spaced at intervals in and around the borders of Herefordshire.

A new feature for 2018 will be four optional waypoints which are sited on legal, non-damaging unsurfaced roads. (Entrants completing this option will qualify for a “Herefordshire on the Ragged Edge” award!).

In 2017, 68 riders entered on 21 different marques, including some rare and beautiful machines. The smallest bike was just 49cc and the oldest, entered by Wigmore’s Steve Sumner, was a 1926 BSA. We are hoping to attract over 100 entries this year.
We would be very grateful if you could pass on details about this fantastic event to contacts who might be interested. Just the right kind of ride for Nortons, from 16Hs to really hot Commandos!
