Stafford International Classic Motorcycle Show, 20th and 21st April 2024

Norton Owners Club at the Stafford International Classic Motorcycle Show, 20/21Apr24

Celebrating Bert Hopwood who joined Norton in 1947 and was influential in the design of the first parallel twin engine which had a bore and stroke of 66 x 72.6mm giving a displacement of 498cc’s. The machine was first seen at the Earls Court show in 1948 and was given the designation ‘Dominator Model 7’. Top speed of the new bike was 92mph with fuel consumption figures of 50mpg.  This design set the pattern for Norton twins for the next 30 years. And was stretched all the way to 828cc’c for the Commando.

The Stand this year will be celebrating pre commando bikes and will start with the Plunger model 7 running all the way through to the Mercury which ended production in 1970. It is alleged that Norton were using up parts with the engine in a slimline featherbed frame and some commando parts including mudguards being used before Mercury production ceased.

We will not have enough room on the stand to have every model but will have a good selection of bikes representing Norton Twins between 1948 and 1970 including plunger and swinging arm model 7’s, Wideline 99’s, slimline 99, 88 deluxe, 500ss, 650ss, Atlas and Mercury.

We will also have a number of Dominator service note books for sale which has been a labour of love, for a group of volunteers between 1979 and 2022. The finished product is of the highest quality and as an owner of 3 dominators an absolute necessity to restore or tinker with one of these iconic British Motorcycles.
