Further Information

The 31st Norton Owners Club International Rally, ITALIA 2016, will be held at Cesanatico, 35km north of Rimini, on the Italian Adriatic coast. the NOC is most grateful for the assistance of the Rimini Moto Guzzi Club, with whom the organisation of the rally and associated events is being shared.

The local club has organised a fine range of runs, visits and social events to keep everybody busy and to see some of the surrounding country and culture.

The Club has selected Cesenatico Camping Village as the venue. This 3-star rated site includes two restaurants, bars, massage parlour, hairdresser, supermarket, pizzeria, swimming pool and sports areas. The private beach with umbrellas etc. is a 100m walk away. On-site evening entertainment is provided. The site operates from 06.00 to 23.00 with vehicle access through electronically controlled barriers. The accommodation includes pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes together with a number of static mobile homes. The fascinating ancient Roman harbour town of Cesenatico 3km offers a variety of hotels on the sea front North of the harbour.

The rally opens with arrivals and check-in on Wednesday 25th May, with the organised events finishing on the evening of Sunday 29th May and departure from the site on the morning of Monday 30th May. Additional days at the site can be arranged.

The rally language will be English, but some material will be available in French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Getting To and From Italia 2016

For participants travelling from the UK, the rally site is a long way - around 860 miles from the Channel ports taking a direct route across Northern France and the Alps. Some people may wish to ship their bike out and ride back or vice-versa or even ship both ways. If there is sufficient interest, the Norton Owners Club will assist with arranging transport for motorcycles from the UK to the rally and back, offering two possibilities:-

(1) Eurobiketrans
The NOC has negotiated transport with Eurobiketrans from its depot in Manchester to a depot in Jesi, near Ancona, about 130km down the coast from Rimini. After the rally, the return journey will be via the same route.
Luggage attached to the motorcycle (in panniers, or secured in another way) will also be transported. If a sufficient number of bikes is being transported, there may be space to include an extra luggage container for helmets, clothing and other equipment.

Bikes must be delivered to the Manchester depot on either Wednesday 18th May or Thursday 19th May, between 10:00 and 14:00. They will be packed up to ship on the 20th.
They will then be available for collection on Wednesday 25th May from the depot in Italy, about 2 hours ride away from Cesanatico . The NOC will provide transport from the rally site to the depot the following day, Thursday 26th (the first official day of the rally). There will be a small charge for this.

Bikes must be delivered to the Jesi depot between Monday 30th May and Thursday 2nd June, preferably all together. They will be packed up to ship on the 3rd.
They will then be available for collection on Thursday 9th June or Friday 10th June from Manchester. Again, the NOC will provide transport at cost from the rally site to the depot.

Motorcycles can be shipped outbound only, return only or both ways which still offers the potential for 8 days of riding in Italy. The cost for a one way trip is £350 and for both ways £495, both inclusive of VAT. With some ferry, fuel and accommodation costs then taken out of the equation, it is not as expensive as it might seem.
This service requires a minimum of 10 motorcycles in either direction in order to run.

Participants may arrange alternative dates directly with Eurobiketrans, shipping bikes between Manchester and Prato, near Florence, about 200km and 3 hours riding to the rally.

(2) Courier
The NOC has an offer from a courier who specialises in moving motorcycles into Europe using a modified van and enclosed trailer setup. This service operates door to door  includes shipping of riding gear and other items. The estimates for this are £630 return and £400 one-way, depending on the UK pick-up point and the number of bikes being moved.

For both shipping options, the NOC requires only 'expressions of interest' by e-mail before payment is required. If there are too few positive responses, then shipping of bikes will not go ahead. Full payment will be needed by November 30th 2015 and again, if less than the minimum number of bookings is not achieved for any of the journeys then that leg will be cancelled and monies refunded.

Flying to and from the Rally

For anybody shipping a bike out/back and flying to/from the rally, here are some options:-

Easyjet to Bologna (then a bus to Bologna Central Station and 1 -1½h on the train to Rimini)

  • from France (Paris, Charles de Gaulle)
  • from Germany (Hamburg)
  • from UK (London, Gatwick)

Ryanair to Bologna (then a bus to Bologna Central Station and 1 -1½h on the train to Rimini)

  • from Belgium (Brussel, Charleroi)
  • from Denmark (København)
  • from France (Paris, Beauvais)
  • from Germany (Berlin; Düsseldorf, Weeze)
  • from Ireland (Dublin)
  • from Spain (Madrid)
    • from UK (London, Stansted; Manchester; Edinburgh; Bristol)

Ryanair to Ancona [recommended for those using Eurobiketrans]
(then a taxi to the transport depot in Jesi and 1 – 1½h ride to Cesenatico)

  • from Belgium (Brussel, Charleroi)
  • from Germany (Düsseldorf, Weeze)
  • from UK (London, Stansted)

In addition, Bologna has scheduled flights by major carriers from a number of countries but it is less suitable than Ancona as the distance to Cesanatico is considerably longer.

A number of the Motorail services that used to move vehicles and their passengers across Europe have been terminated as being uneconomic. For Italy in 2016, there remains just the one route which operates between Düsseldorf and Verona.

This service is limited to Fridays only outward and Saturdays only for the return; days which do not fit particularly well with the rally dates of Wednesday to Monday.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I do not have access to the Internet. How do I book?

Try to find somebody with Internet access to book on your behalf. The booking system accepts group bookings of up to 4 people.

  • I am unable to be there for the whole rally. Can I pay a reduced fee?

There is a flat rate rally fee that applies for however long you choose to be there. The amount of work involved in organising reduced fees cannot be managed.

  • I wish to bring a non-Member passenger. Can they book at the Member rate?

Passengers and/or partners must be either full NOC Members, have Joint membership or pay the non-Member surcharge. When booking, Members may upgrade a passenger to a 1‑year Joint membership for GBP3 or a 5-year Joint membership for GBP15 as appropriate.

  • Are there any reduced fees or charges for children?

The rally fees, charges and rates for accommodation apply to everyone, adults or children.

  • Why do I have to pay in Euros?

The complications of operating a mixed currency rally are huge. In addition, the Club would be exposed to changes in exchange rates and would have to make a surcharge to participants in order to cover itself financially.

  • Why can't I fill in a form and send it by post with a cheque?

The rally currency is the Euro so cheques in Sterling cannot be used. In addition, the Club does not have facilities for taking cheques in Euros. Transcribing applications from paper forms is also very time consuming and more likely to lead to errors and omissions.

  • Do I have to bring a Norton to the rally?

Most of all, the Club would like to see people at the rally, however they get there. Nevertheless, It is a Norton rally and participants should plan to arrive on a Norton if at all possible. Motorcycles other than Nortons may not be included in any displays at the rally and may be asked to park separately on the runs.

  • Can I book an entire mobile home for myself and/or partner?

Cesenatico Camping Village has allocated a number of mobile homes for exclusive booking by the NOC. We expect a high uptake of places for the event and with accommodation being limited, these should be booked for maximum occupancy.

  • Can I extend my stay at the rally site?

Anybody wishing to arrive early or leave late at Cesenatico Camping Village must negotiate an extension directly with the site.

  • Can I go on one of the runs but not pay for the lunch?

As for the rally fee, the charges for the runs are all inclusive as shown in the programme and cannot be split The current cost is GBP19.50 for a 1-year subscription.
