commando rear wheels / tyres.

Hi,

Has anyone experience of fitting a 120 section or even a 130 section  rear tyre to a mk3 commando ?

I realise I would need an 18" rim but curious to know what is the widest section tyre it"s possible to fit.

regards,

Paul.

A 110 x 18 Avon roadrider is 115mm wide and has 10 mm clearance on the rear chain on my 750 Commando. My Commander has a 120 X 18 Roadrider and that is 125mm wide. That would cut your clearance down to 5mm and that doesn't allow much scope for wheel adjustment or the fitting of a chainguard. The swinging arm tubes are a larger diameter on the Mk3 so I don't know how close they would get to the tyre. The chain is the limiting factor. bear in mind the rim is already offset to the right by 3/16" to allow for the engine being that far to the left in the frame. You could space out your gearbox and rear wheel sprocket to give you more clearance but then the chain will saw through your inner primary chaincase.
