Commando Frame Number
Up to Commando
I have recently bought a Commando but have only just noticed the frame number plate from the headstock is missing.
I have the frame and engine numbers on the the Log book (unfortunately different numbers) but all that I have is numbers. Should there be letters denoting the year of the bike before the numbers if so does anyone know what they are or where I can find out what they should be.
The bike is a 1969 model Roadster if anyone can help.
Thanks
Phil.

Hello Phil,
If you want a good reference book on Nortons I recomend, Norton Twin Restoration by Roy Bacon, it is full of usefull facts and figures on Nortons and has a list of frame, engine numbers, dates, model charts etc.
On My 750 Commando the frame, engine and gearbox numbers all match with the frame number and date of manufacture stamped on a plate rivited to the headstock. I think these can be bought from dealers.
Hope we have a decent summer so you can enjoy your Norton, happy riding.
