Better day running lights
Up to Heavy Twins
Can anyone help in advising on brighter day running lights for 1952 Nortons. 6 volt halogens don't seem to be available in the old standard fitting and the LED type bolt-on lights eg Cree apparently don't work at 6 volt. We need to be seen better out on the road. At the moment the chrome headlamp rim is seen better than the headlight!
Thanks

Thanks Hello Led Lights only come in Negative earth ,you will have to try and get positive earth bulbs for them to work ? yours anna j
Bob Kizer at Podtronics makes a regulator which will convert your bike to 12 volts. That might be the answer to your problem.

Colin.
Thanks to you all for responding so quickly. I tried Classic and vintage bulbs website and ended up directed to Andrew Brock, (Bulb Supplies) 31a Shawbury Rd., London SE22 9DH who is sending me on 35/35 BPF 6 v halogens which I hope will help without draining the power supply.
I will follow up Chris' suggestion re 6 v LEDs and see where that takes me. Failing that I may yet follow up Colin's suggestion re 12 volt converter.
Many thanks to you all.
William
I rebuilt my dynamo with a 12v field coil and armature (from VOC spares, but others must supply them) and use a solid state 12v regulator. Not too sure how getting 12v from a 6v dynamo works in practice. I would worry that the commutator would suffer. The 12v armature uses silver solder on the armature segments to stop segments coming loose at potentially higher temperatures. It works well and I can see where I am going! Gordon.

Hi William,
You can buy pos. or neg. earth LED's, you can also get halogen bulbs in 6 volt. I got mine from here (excellent company)

I have been very happy with them. I converted my dynamo to 12 volts with a new armature from Sean Hawkwer, take a look at his site:
