Fork Problems and NOC shop Problems

Posted by matthew_kimber at September 15. 2011

Hi there,

Help required regarding the fork setup. I have recently bought oil seal holders, oil seals and bushes off the NOC shop. Though great no problem chucked all the old parts away when cleaning up my garage.

I have a 1960 dommie deluxe with short roadholder forks.

Went to fit them and it seems the lip on the bush, seal and thread on the seal holder are too big for the slider. Double checked they were driven in properly and they were. So I then measured the parts.

The depth of the slider is 23mm

The bush lip is 5mm
the oil seal is 12mm
the thread on the holder is 8mm

This totals 25mm. (sorry its in new money im not old enough to work out inches etc) Which is 2mm too big!!!!!

I then tried to get in contact with whoever is in charge of the parts and I have received nothing. I did get some help but they could not help me. Now no reply with changing or returning. And this was well over a month ago.

Whats worse is i got impatient and then got a friend to try and machine it off the seal holder thread and it threw it off the chuck on the lathe and it bent and broke the seal holder (about 25 quids worth) fairly cheap looking parts anyway.

So I was just wondering before I go splashing out on new parts, which part may be wrong if anyone has spares lying around they can measure or whether my fork sliders are different. I did however dismantle these parts and they fitted then.

Thanks for your help

Matt
