Model 99 silencer
Up to Heavy Twins
Hi, I live in Australia and was looking to purchase a set of mufflers for a 1959 model 99 I am building, I have seen a brand of muffler selling on Ebay in the UK called "Brituro".
Could anybody tel me if this is a brand is good quality or not, any advice on this or any recommendations on where to get good mufflers from would be great.
Regards Andy.
Hi Andy
No idea about that source, never heard of them either way, but others may have.
If you have supply problems try Norvil.
Heres the link:-
http://www.norvilmotorcycle.co.uk/
Click 'Parts List'
Click on 'S'
It seems you need one off each:-
023767 and 8.
Hope this helps.

Hi Andy,
A friend of mine bought a pair for his Hinckley Triumph Bonneville, they sound MUCH better than the originals (not difficult) & the chrome looks better the the original too. They've only been on since about last May & haven't been out on any salted roads so can't comment on their longevity, but so far he seems very happy with them. I think he bought them direct from Brituro a little cheaper than he could get them elsewhere.

Loved the webmaste's comment, a actually did "laugh out loud" !
Last year I bought my pipes & mufflers from Feked, they seem to have a heaver gauge pipe & the chrome on the pipes & mufflers seems very thick, I have been very happy with both, but I have only had them on for one year. The only weird thing is, you dont specify right or left, you just order 2 & they will ship one rh & one LH, seems strange that they dont do 2 separate part numbers? Here is a link and a pic:

It was cheaper for me to buy the Feked pipes & mufflers & pay shipping to the USA, than to buy a set over here, I was extremely happy with the quality & sound.

Thanks Webmaster. Looks like Anna had a good lunch today after missing her spelling and grammar lesson!
Thanks more to Skip for the link to Feked (Strange name likely to lead to a lot of bad puns), I see they even do nice exhaust systems for lightweights. I see a price is quoted, but they don't say if this is for one or a pair. Please elaborate.
Colin.

Now Colin, let's not start getting too personal. Not everyone's spelling, and grammar are perfect. I know Anna thinks I am slagging her off sometimes (not so), but I would never mock her English. True, she can hardly stop rabbeting on about her Manxman, and, a lot of her comments are totally irreverent to the original thread (so she is a grandma, I am a great-granddad, so what?!!). However, her heart is in the right place, and, at least, she makes an active contribution to these pages.

Hello Colin its not my spelling that the problem, Its me being able to see what ,I am putting down on the thread , I have a cataract on my right eye it puts the left eye out sometimes , And thanks for letting me know ,my spelling bad but I think you get my drift ,we need to stop getting at one-another over small mister meaners ,and pull together and help one-another and this will make for a better club
Colin,
on my pipes & mufflers Feked priced out each, enter "2" if you want a pair & they assume you want one right & one left.

I have a lovely vision of Anna's Mister Meaners - small serious people with clipboards and attitude no doubt. However, let's not forget that this forum is about Nortons and not who did well in English at school. Anna does have plenty to contribute so let's just accept that it's her knowledge of Nortons which counts, not the way it is expressed.
For silencers and salt, when I get new silencers, I swill them internally with good quality primer and also paint the inward facing exterior (the area that's hard to clean and polish). So the bits of the silencers which are on view are nice and shiny and the hidden bits have extra protection. They then last for years and years.

Chris,
I can only once again offer my humblest appologies for this unforgivable slip & ask you to rest assured that I have given myself a good telling off & as punishment have sentenced myself to sveral evenings of working on Lena's Navi, which also uses the same type silencer as the 99. (Just added that bit so I don't get another slap on the wrist for drifting off topic)

All the best, Tim

My Feked silencers & pipes on the bike :

RE. spellcheck: I dont know how it works, but if I mis-spell a word on this site, it has a red wavy underline to indicate mis-spelled. I don't know if it is a website feature, or a feature on my computer?
