Primary Belt Drive (Clutch Problem)

Posted by steven_woods at August 15. 2017

Hello,

I have just purchased a Dommie 88 fitted with a primary belt drive and a Bob Newby racing clutch. I am having real issues setting this clutch up. Either I have to have superhero strength to operate the clutch or if I can get the clutch to operate smoothly as soon as I put it in gear the bike stalls. I have followed the set-up instructions and have spent hours with the adjustment. I am at the point of taking the clutch to pieces or fitting a brand new clutch. Any help would stop me going mad. Thanks Steve

I don't know what that clutch looks like, but some things don't change. If the belt is too tight it will when hot pull the clutch out of true when its lifted. If the clutch has no clearance to the sleeve gear it will affect the change, are the plates free in the drum and on the center ,can you see any contact marks where there should be none?are the plates really flat and lifting square, is the pushrod free and straight,is there enough lift.

I would like to thank Robert for his help. I would also like to thank Dale for his help on the phone last night and today.  The problem with my AMC box was alignment and clutch adjustment, the clutch cable need re-routing etc.  Thanks again all

Glad it was simple, they are the best "fixes".  Now the bikes are getting very old and often fitted with poor new parts unusual problems do appear. Always look at the simple things first . Last year I saved about £1000 by drilling a small hole, sounds riddiculous but its true. Think out of the box.
