Advice on spares: 1955 Model 7

Posted by james_bason at January 12. 2010

Hi all,

Can anyone advise on where to obtain a 'rebuild kit' for the aluminium cylinder head on this bike as it burns oil. When aquired it was suffering with oil pump failure which is now showing what damage it has done. Also needing advice on who does spares for the laydown gearboxes as the kickstart ratchet on mine tends to jump.

Cheers for now

James

Hi James

If you check through recent Roadholders you will find several big name ads who offer either to refurbish, recondition or supply parts for an early Dommi cylinder head.  However, you will need fairly deep pockets if you go down this route.

It might be a little easier and far cheaper to look out for another cylinder head in a better condition.  There are plenty around still where people have collected and hoarded in recent years.

I would strongly recommend that you contact Dale Middlehurst, Heavyweight Twin Adviser on the NOC Tech Team.  He has a deep knowledge of where such spares can be sourced.

Check out page 68 in RH 269 for his number.

Hello james  If you post me you cylinder head I will sort it out for you ? some time you my find that if there is a high spot on the mating serface's ,when you fit you cylinder head you may get oil being sucked into the bore via the pushrod tunnels thus  mimicking worn bores or valve guides  My Name and Adress Anna J Dixon IE,Bs,Eng Howden country Club main road Belby Howden East Yorkshire DN14 7UZ   Phone 01430430831  or mobile 07757080727 annajeannette@btinternet.com
