Dominator Yokes

Posted by ian_burgess at January 27. 2010

The 1960 basket case Domi I have has 7" yokes, but it has fork sliders from 7 3/8 wide fork, I was going to have tham machined on the bottom and turn them in to 7" sliders by removing 3/16 of the inside of each leg.

But I now have a set of mudguards the front one being from a 7 3/8 wide fork.

So to save time and cost (I am poor now because of the mudguards) my plan is to fit 7 3/8 yokes whan I can get someWILL THIS WORK  ????

                           Many Thanks Ian

A BIG YES to your plan.

All the parts will fit together as long as they are the proper bits.  You should be looking for yokes with part numbers:-

      -  030027 TOP  Yoke  (or Head Clip)

&  -  030026  Crown and Stem (or Bottom yoke)

The extra metal on the slider bosses and brake anchor point will keep the front wheel in a central position between the legs with no mods needed.

However, don't forget that the wider yokes will require a longer wheel spindle

Things to watch out for.  Make sure that the all the nuts for the stem are the correct thread.  26tpi Cycle.  Early Commando yokes look very similar and can be used on a Dommi frame but have  UNF threads all over.  The stem nuts for these are 28tpi.  Cycle nuts will go on so far and then  tighten up before spoiling the threads.  Also there are sidecar and some hybrid Nortons yokes that look very similar and will fit the headstock but give dodgy trail angles. Avoid using any with numbers 030499, 030340 and 030402.

Ian, did you ever get your 7 3/8 yokes? I'm looking for a good 7'' top yoke for my 1960 99 in order to 'de-cafe' it. When I do I'll have a spare Tickle yoke for someones project.

Thanks Robert
