Can anyone identify part numbers 29,30 and 31 on the attached? I am just reassembling the rear hub and they are missing!

Hello Martyn,

 

The parts are chain adjusters. One set goes each side, over the spindle assembly, but on the outer faces of the swinging arm ends.

Your bike was made in the final year for this type. Norton then went to a swinging arm with cast end sections. The adjusters on those threaded into small bosses in front of the spindle. So the later ones push the spindle back to tighten the chain, whereas yours pull the spindle back.

Yes, that makes sense now, it is now obvious on the parts diagram.

BTW I have just snapped the RHS chain adjuster as it was longer than the LHS (?) and I tried to even them out!
