Speedo and drive gearing

Posted by andy_marks at January 23. 2012

Hi

I have managed to get hold of a right angle speedo drive for my pre-war inter but it has no gear on it. I have a 43T gear that screws onto the hub. I have seen mention of 43T to 14T for the 21inch wheel. Is this correct?

I also have a 0-80mph speedo head but the inter was offered with the 120mph. I probably need to get mine reconditioned anyway, can it be changed to a 120 with some internal gears or anything? Or do I need to go looking for a 120 if thats what I want?

Thanks for help

Andy

David Woods (01243 542521) will recondition your speedo with the correct pre-war face, and change it to 120 mph, new bezel etc. The only requirement is that the trip knob on your existing speedo must exit at the bottom (where it should be to fit the Inter fork bracket) not at the side of the speedo case, as the internal assemblies for these two options are not interchangeable. He did a pre-war conversion for me recently - at a good price and quick turn-around. He may know the answer to your gear numbers as well.

If not try Stu Rogers or Paul Norman, both good sources of Inter parts.

Roger

Sorry - wrong info about the trip position. (I have two different bikes on the go at the moment!)  You need a speedo with a side trip knob for the girder forks bracket.
