Rear brake rod colour?

Hi, Can anyone help me with this one?

Big 4 / 16H the late models (early 50'ies).

Were the rods chromed or painted black or something else?

The front end of my Big4 rod looks as if it had been chromed?

Can't be certain, though.

hi paul could be either my 1951 es2 and big 4 are both chrome but have seen painted ones as well regards roger

Just a guess but I would think that if the bike was ex WD then it would be painted and if it was a civilian model then it would be chrome?

Thanks for your help guys! This is good enough for me and I've now decided which way to go!
