mod 18 oil pressure spring
Up to Singles
Can anybody out there help.
I have a 1946 mod18 and I am in desperate need of a spring for the oil pressure relief valve situated in the middle of the timing chest cover behind a 1/2"dia grub screw. The spring itself is conical in shape and approx 3/8"dia at the large end, tapering down to about 1/4" or 3/16"dia . I have tried all the usual suspects and the closest I came was russell motors who normaly keep some in stock but are sold out at present and will be having more made at some point in the future.
I have also found that the same part was fitted in the 16h motor through out the 1940's.
Could I also point out that this is not the same spring behind the oil feed jet feeding the crank shaft and big end which is also in the timing chest cover and positioned below the oil pressure relief valve.
Many Thanks
Paul Wilkins
Paul,
I can't help you with the spring, but if you do find a source for them, could you publish it back here and help many others.
thanks
Bob
Is it the same as the camshaft models ? If so, have you tried Paul Norman ?

Hi Richard
Thanks for the reply, I have been informed by Stu Rodgers that they are different and are only fitted to the Mod18,ES2 and 16H
I may even have to locate another timing chest cover just to obtain the spring
Many Thanks
Paul
Also Model 19, Big 4 and pretty well every other non OHC single that norton made from at least 1934 -1964. They can't be that obscure, surely someone either knows where to get the real thing or what is good for a replacement.

Most of the engines that I've dismantled have had either broken or at least corroded springs. Still, it's Netley Marsh and Beaulieu next week. Are you down in that area ?
Have you asked Mike Pemberton by the way ?

Netley Marsh and Beaulieu are a bit out my radius for travel as I live in Humberside ,and I have also spoken to Mike Pemberton but he has none either. Still I think I should be able to find something local at Newark or Doncaster.
