Luggage racks
Up to NOC Riders Section
Here is my effort. Copper central heating tube and soldered fittings. Actually cost maybe about £50 (can't remember now) -so if you find a proper one it might be cheaper. This one has stabilisers going forward to the seat locating pins so it is safer than just hanging out there on the mudguard bolts.
Good point. I araldited strips of stainless steel (actually an old stainless steel ruler!) to each side inside the mudguard because of a small (but growing) crack (pre-carrier...). It was VERY thoroughly down to bare metal before gluing. A friend soldered (or brazed - can't remember) steel rods along the inside of edges of the guard for the same reason. Part of the problem is that owing to frame tolerances (i.e. nothing on a featherbed is straight or square) the flat side of the rear guard was not..flat. So it flexed under vertical road vibration and ended up with fatigue cracks. Now it stays flat and does not bend sideways when pressed down.

Does anybody know where you can get a rack to fit a 59 featherbed please?
Hi David - I bought a 'universal' carrier from Motorcycle Products Ltd (they have a website) for circa £60.00. It fitted straight onto my 1972 BSA Rocket 3 and looks as though it would fit many twin-shock British Classics - it might be worth a look - - - .

Mark Woodward.
