Not SORN

Posted by clive_marsh at September 01. 2010

I bought a Commando 750 back in 1998 and have the old V5 registration document in my name. The bike was in disrepair when iIbought and has been stored in my garage since 1998. It has never been road wothy

The bike has never been SORN. Can anyone advise how I should go about declaring the bile as Off Road and what consequences may occur? Will I be fined?

Go to the Directgov web site pages that deal with tax discs and SORN.

On that page, click the tab Common Questions

Finally, click on the link Statutory Off-Road Notification (SORN) where you will find out what you need to know.

Hi Clive,

If your bike has been off the road and not taxed since before 1998 you have no need to worry about SORN. I have bikes that have been off the road for years and have never needed to declare this even though one was only put on the DVLA system in 2008 (last taxed 1970).

Cheers

Many thanks for that. i shall do that.  The bike has not been taxed for years as it has been in disrepair. My concern was that when i do rebuild and get it back on the road , would I be fined for not having it SORN these last 12 years. Appreciate your response

Many thanks for that. The bike has not been taxed since the 80's. Just in a garage waiting for rebuild !!  the time has come to make a start now, and i was concerend that once i did get the bike road worthy again, would i be fined for all the lost years. You have put my mind at rest.  Cheers
