HELLO NO THIS GEARBOX IS An AMC mark 1  You should have the Laydown gear-box  for 1955 models   these gearboxes were designed by Stirumley-Archer  gearboxes  and late on Burman gearboxes bought them out but continued to make  the same gearbox designs  some know the lay down box has the Norton gearbox  Burman gear box have the selector plate at the rear of the  gearbox was Norton has these at the front of the gearbox , happy  yours   anna j

Would that suit a '57 ES2? I currently have a laydown box fitted s/no starting GB8 which I don't think is correct for this year?

hello the thing is hear you not told us what model your Norton is yet . in any case  the laydown box went  into the singles and twins both model 7 and model-88 for 1955 year  so a laydown box is a good start
now good luck with it all yours  anna j
