Registration advice please

Posted by kenneth_dickson at March 03. 2017

Hi all , I have been a member for a few years now but this my first post , I have owned my triton for 18 years now , I bought it as my retirement project & that time has finally come , it was used as a race bike , I've tried to trace the reg number through previous owners but with no joy , I want to use it on the road so need to trace the original reg or get a age related plate , I have no previous mot's , tax discs or log books , the engine is a triumph T120 , the frame number is R13 90###,  which seems to be a model 50 from 1960 aprox ,  I'm sure this has been asked many times but where do I start the registration process, I have looked at the forms noc 2,3&4 but I'm not sure where to start , all help much appreciated

kind regards Kenny d

You should be able to determine the original owner from the frame number from either DVLA or NOC Records depending on how their data bases are constructed.

Send the following to the NOC Records Officer:-

  • A completed application form
  • A photograph of each side of the complete machine in its current condition
  • Photographs of both the Frame No. and the Engine No.
  • A rubbing or a photograph of the Engine No.
  • Payment to the Norton Owners Club:     Members £15     Non-Members £30
You can pay by cheque or via NOCShop using your debit or credit card

All stampings must include the full numbers suffixes and prefixes as shown on the frame and engine.

In your case you will only send the frame number to the NOC, if you cannot get hold of the original owner then you will need to do the same with the engine number to the Triumph owners club or the VMCC. The DVLA will want to see that both the engine and frame are old, not just the frame to issue an age related plate. I would work on the basis the DVLA to object at some point if the original registration cannot be found and try to issue a Q plate instead so be prepared to have to fight your corner.

Thanks john ,I'm not keen on  Q plate's , 18 years ago I sold a dominator 99 which was on a Q plate to buy the triton because I don't like Q plates , IMO an old bike has to look like a old bike & Q plates take the vintage look away from them
