Commando Interstate/Roadster Luggage Rack

Offered for sale is a luggage rack specifically designed for the Commando.

The Rack was designed out of frustration that no lightweight carrier was available for the various Commandos that I have owned and those that were appeared to be festooned with brackets, stays etc which ruined the lines of the bike.

This rack was intended to be lightweight, easily fitted or removed and to carry a load of up to 3kilo, bearing in mind the dangers of overloading the rear frame loop. I originally made one for myself, primarily to take camping gear over to The Island but such was the interest that I started making Racks on an occasional basis for fellow Commando owners that I met along the way.

The Rack is of high quality manufacture, weighs 1.8Kg and is finished in Black. It utilises the existing grabrail 'P-Clips' and set screws, although of course the clips must be present for the Rack to be fitted. I apologise if this sounds a little obvious but experience has rendered the statement necessary! The Rack mounts over the grabrail lugs, strengthening the assembly in the process. Two small feet 'kiss' the frame, only making contact if the rack is overloaded and thus spreading the load.

The Rack is not suitable for Fastback models, again for obvious reasons, also, most MkIII bikes are fitted with a grabrail that employs double mounting lugs which again are not suitable. The rack can of course be fitted without the grabrail present at all and double lugs may be converted into singles with the aid of an angle grinder, but I would rather simply state that the double lug grabrail is incompatible and leave it at that!
